Sedation Dentistry

Sedation Dentistry

We understand that people can feel anxious before a dental procedure. We take this seriously, and we want to assure you that we offer a full range of sedation levels with all office-based procedures.

Sedation Dentistry - South Flores DentalWhen you come to South Flores Family Dental for a procedure, we will do everything possible to ensure your comfort. We realize that many patients are anxious enough about getting their teeth cleaned, and when it comes to treatments such as oral surgery, this is enough to send anxiety levels soaring.

When you come to us for a consultation, we’ll discuss not only your medical history and details about your upcoming procedure but also what the best options might be for anesthesia. This will depend on a number of variables, including the complexity of your procedure and the comfort level you desire.

We don’t want you to put off needed treatment because you are nervous about it. At South Flores Family Dental, you can depend on being completely safe and comfortable during your procedure. Feel free to call and ask us any questions you might have before visiting!

Sedation Options

We offer a variety of sedation options so you can be relaxed when you are under our care. Depending on your needs and your level of anxiety, we will discuss using one or more of the following anesthesia options:

  • Before your appointment, we can prescribe a sedative medication to help you relax before you even get here. Be sure to arrange for someone to drive you to and from your appointment.
  • Local anesthesia will numb the area to be treated with the “Wand,” which delivers local anesthesia in a measured, consistent dosage that is nearly pain-free.
  • Nitrous oxide (also called laughing gas) will completely relax you and put you in a “happy place” during your procedure. Breathed in through a mask similar to oxygen, its effects are almost immediate. Once you stop breathing it in, it leaves the body almost as quickly. You will have no driving restrictions unless used with another type of sedation.
  • Intravenous sedation is also available, and it can be tailored to your situation with light, moderate, or deep sedation. Delivered directly into the bloodstream with an IV, its effects are slow to wear off so patients will need to have someone drive them home from their appointment.
